Ketupat, Special Meals in Idul Fitri

For Indonesians, Ied (Idul Fitri, Lebaran) is definitely linked with mudik and ketupat. Ketupat is special food in Idul Fitri in Indonesia. Yes, it’s menu that have to ready in Idul Fitri. So a lot of people often assume that no ketupat in Idul Fitri like soup without salt. Tasteless. Ketupat is really a food constructed from rice covered by janur (young coconut leaf). Janur is created and filled by rice and cooked. 

Many people buy empty ketupat on the market chances are they grow it and cook it. Even so the others prefer buy janur and form it become ketupat by their selves. Make ketupat in addition to all family within the birthplace while tell the other person about their story overseas. It is just a special moment.

Ketupat isn't just meals. It’s a tradition. It offers philosophy meaning deeply.

Ketupat (Java:kupat) is rice included in janur. Rice is usually a symbol for lust of the world. Janur is an acronym from ejatining nuri (Java language), mean conscience. So, ketupat symbolizes lust around the globe that may be covered by conscience. It’s a note that someone should control his passion or lust around the globe by his conscience. It attached to fasting just done in Ramadhan month.

There unique tradition in Java. Some individuals hang ketupat within the doorframe for the, or weeks, even for months until next Idul Fitri. Many people think that it may reject misadventure. But now we seldom chose the habit.

In Idul Fitri, exactly in Java, ketupat always eaten with opor ayam (chicken opor) and sambal goreng ati (spicy beef liver).  Opor ayam is chicken cooked by coconut cream and spices. Ketupat eaten as substitution of cooked rice. Special moment with special menu.
