Making batik on a sheet of cloth is common, but by the craftmen in krebet, small village in pajangan district, bantul,batik is developed further using  wood as the media. Krebet Wood Painting Tourism Village is located at Sendangsari Village, Pajangan subdistrict, Bantul.

The woods used for painting media is soft wood like Albizia woods, Pule woods (Alstonia sp.), and Mahogany woods. Those species are soft textured as well as having straight fibre which are suitable to paint batik patterns on and the results obtained better and more vivid color than those made from hardwood such as teak.



The process of putting batik pattern on the wood surface requires a lot more care since the pattern is made manually instead of printed like making batik on a printing block. Batik Wood is still made using traditional methods and tools so that the results obtained is very naturalistic and very unique.  Designs are made by craftsmen usually centered around a main motive of a flower.  



The designs are usually drawn on the wood using a pencil and then “Malam”, batik wax in the liquid state is used to finalise the designs where the coloured dyes would not go.  The wax is heated in a small skillet.
